WESTERN COLORADO MEN'S BASKETBALL GOING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2024-25 STATS
- The Mountaineers are coming off an exhibition game against the University of Denver and season opener loss against Oklahoma Christian University.
- WCU overall record 0-1.
- The Mountaineers put up 80 points against DU and 63 against OCU.
- Senior Amar Rivers paved the way in the Denver game with 19 points, going 8-8 from the free throw line, 3 rebounds, a block and 3 steals. Sophomore Tyler Halligan contributed 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals and a block. Senior transfer Trey Anderson ended with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Junior Ty Buckmon was another offensive contributor with 9 points, 3-3 from the line, and 4 assists. Senior Kade Juelfs put up 8 points with the addition of a rebound, assist and steal.
- Freshman Dawlton Grant led the team in rebounds with 6 while also recording two assists. Junior Trevin Lieck finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Jamel Hollins also pulled down 4 boards.
- In the contest against OCU, three Mountaineers scored in double digits, Lieck with 12, Halligan 11 and Rivers 10. Anderson contributed 9 points followed by Buckmon with 8 and junior Andrew Reichart and Juelfs respectfully with 6.
- Hollins paved the way on defense pulling down 7 rebounds with the addition of a steal. Next, Rivers with 6 boards, 2 blocks and a steal.
- The Mountaineers had more second chance points than OCU with 10, as well as more bench points (20). WCU created 14 of their points off turnovers and 36 points were in the paint.
- Midwestern State enters the weekend with a 1-1 overall record. They defeated UC Colorado Springs 72-63 and dropped to CSU-Pueblo 60-80.
- Junior Mason Gibson leads the Mustangs averaging 17 points per game, 3.5 assists per game and 3 steals per game. Senior Will Shepherd follows with 10 ppg.
- Sophomore Antwan Taylor and Shepard tie for an average of 5.5 rebounds per game. Senior Reggie Hill follows averaging 5 rpg.
- As a team MSU shoots 39.3% from the field, 28.6% from three and 66.7% from the charity stripe. They average 36 rebounds per game, 12.5 assists per game, 9 steals per game and 2.5 blocks per game.
- Cameron University is coming off losses to CSU-Pueblo 64-83 and UC Colorado Springs 64-71. Their overall record stands at 0-2.
- Junior Jermell Johnson leads the scoring for the Aggies, averaging 11.5 per game. Following is redshirt junior Aaron Jacob averaging 11 ppg.
- Redshirt senior Jaxon Ingram paves the way on the boards, averaging 12 rebounds per game. Jacob is a close second recording 6 boards per game.
- As a team CU shoots 36.8% from the field, 22% from the three-point line, and 64.1% from the free throw line. They average 39 rebounds per game, 8 assists per game, 7.5 steals per game and 3 blocks per game.
