COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Western Colorado fell to a gritty University of Colorado Colorado Springs team 83-60, while Avery Rembao and Kade Juelfs both registered a team-high 15 points for the Mountaineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• It was a slow start for both teams as it was a 14-7 game with 10 minutes and 17 seconds left in the first quarter. UCCS never looked back from taking the early lead as they held the advantage for the whole 40 minutes. The Mountain Lions shot 51% from the field in the first 20 minutes, while shooting 66% from beyond the arch.  

• The Mountain Lions took a 21-point lead in the second half but Avery Rembao was able to shrink the lead with a jumper from inside the paint. Jesse Iweze and Mac Stodart made a splash for the Mountain Lions as the duo was able to break away from the Mountaineers defense for a pair of dunks. Avery Rembao slammed a dunk of his own with 4:48 to go.  

• The Mountaineers collected 32 points from inside the paint and 26 points off the bench. Western Colorado shot just 29% from the field in the first half and 48% in the final 20 minutes of the game.  

COURT NOTES 

• While Kade Juelfs and Avery Rembao both scored 15 points apiece, Jaelan McCloud tallied 11 points of his own while going 5-for-11 from the field.  

• McCloud led the Mountaineers with six rebounds, while Jonathan McCloud and Christian Still each recorded a block. Juelfs and Spencer Wright got in on the defensive action with one steal each.

The Mountaineers will travel to South Dakota to face a duo of RMAC foes next weekend starting with South Dakota Mines in Rapid City, S.D., on Friday, January 12, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. Western Colorado will then head to Spearfish, S.D., to face off against Black Hills State on Saturday, January 13 with tipoff slated for 6 p.m.
