Mountaineers Kickoff 2024 On The Road Against Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Western Colorado will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., on January 6 to face University of Colorado Colorado Springs to start the second half of their season after the holiday break.  

The two squads met twice last season and won a game a piece with the Mountain Lions earning a 60-51 win in their latest meeting. The Mountaineers took a 57-53 win on New Years Eve last season.  

 MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats

  • The Mountaineers (2-8, 0-5 RMAC) are looking for their first conference win of the season after going into the holiday break with an exhibition win over NCAA Division I Utah State in Logan, Utah. Jayda Maves came up clutch with a 3-pointer with four seconds left in the game to give her team the 51-49 win.  

  • As a team, the Mountaineers have tallied 58.3 points per game this season while making 38% of their shots from the field. Defensively, the Mountaineers have registered 36.5 rebounds per game which is 3 rebounds per game better than their opponent.  

  • In their last conference game, the Mountaineers went toe-to-toe with then No. 10 Colorado School of Mines in a 61-56 game. Rachel Cockman registered her fifth double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Western Colorado was proficient from the field making 43% of their shots while Mines only made 28% of their shots from the field.  

  • Cockman leads the Mountaineers with 17.7 points per game, while making 47% of her shots from the field. The junior also leads the team with 9.1 rebounds per game. Cockman currently ranks third in the RMAC in points per game and field goal percentage as well as tied for fourth in rebounds per game. 

MOUNTAIN LIONS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats  

  • The Mountain Lions (7-6, 4-3 RMAC) head into this weekend 4-3 in conference play after a loss to Regis on Tuesday. Amyah Moore Allen recorded a game-high 20 points against the Rangers, while Maison White had 19 rebounds. As a team, UCCS leads the RMAC with a 43.6 field goal percentage and ranks third in 3-point field goal percentage with 33%. The Mountain Lions have scored 67.2 points per game with a 6.4 scoring margin. UCCS' defense has allowed just 60.8 points per game while collecting 34.1 rebounds per game.  

  • Maison White leads the Mountain Lions in points per game with 14.1, while shooting 60% from the field and collecting 183 total points. She ranks 10th in the league in points per game while she is 8th in total points. On the defensive side, she leads her team with 9.6 rebounds per game and has tallied 125 total rebounds including 75 defensive boards. White ranks third in the conference in both rebounds per game and total rebounds.

The Mountaineers will travel to South Dakota to face a pair of RMAC opponents next weekend starting with South Dakota Mines in Rapid City, S.D., on Friday, January 12, with tip off set for 5:30 p.m. Western Colorado will then go to Spearfish, S.D., to face off against Black Hills State on Saturday, January 13 with tip off slated for 4 p.m.
