COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Western Colorado will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., on January 6 to take on University of Colorado Colorado Springs to start the second half of its season after the holiday break. 

The Mountaineers are looking for their first win against the Mountain Lions since 2017 when they won 77-72. Last season, the Mountaineers dropped a pair of contests by scores of 79-63 and 90-66.  

 MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats 

• The Mountaineers (4-7, 1-4 RMAC) are coming into this weekend with a pair of wins under their belt including a 54-42 win over Stanton in an exhibition game and a 64-62 win over Northern New Mexico College back on Tuesday, December 19. In their final conference game before the break, the Mountaineers fell to Colorado School of Mines 79-61.  

• As a team, Western Colorado has registered 61.7 points per game while shooting 41% from the field. Defensively, the Mountaineers collected 31.5 rebounds per game, 58 steals and 22 blocks in the first half of the season.  

• Kade Juelfs leads the Mountaineers in points per game (11.2), field goal percentage (46%) and free throw percentage (82%). Jamel Hollins leads the team in assists with 25 total assists with an average of 2.3 per game. Hollins also leads the team in rebounds with 6.1 per game, which ranks ninth in the RMAC.  

MOUNTAIN LIONS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023-24 Stats  

• The Mountain Lions (5-8, 1-6 RMAC) are coming off an 88-62 loss to Regis on Tuesday. Jesse Iweze registered a career-high 28 points including 9 field goals and 9 free throws which were also career highs in Tuesday's match up. As a team, the Mountain Lions are averaging 70.7 points per game while shooting 42% from the field.  

• Xavier Martinez leads UCCS in multiple categories in points per game (14.2), assists per game (4.7) and steals (16) in 13 games this season. William Becker and Jesse Iweze both lead UCCS defensively with Becker averaging 8.9 rebounds per game and 11 blocks this season. Iweze has recorded 7.3 boards per game with 8 steals and 7 blocks.

The Mountaineers will travel to South Dakota to face a duo of RMAC foes next weekend starting with South Dakota Mines in Rapid City, S.D., on Friday, January 12, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. Western Colorado will then head to Spearfish, S.D., to face off against Black Hills State on Saturday, January 13 with tipoff slated for 6 p.m.
