LAKEWOOD Colo. Western Colorado battled late in the third set, but Colorado Christian set the tone early and took the sweep from the Mountaineers on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The Cougars did not give up the lead in the first set as they led the Mountaineers as large as eight points early on. Maggie Olson, Seyun Park and Miya Alvarado each recorded a pair of kills for the Mountaineers in the first game. 

• Western Colorado took an early lead in the second set as Park registered three more kills for her squad, but the Cougars battled back and took the second set.  

• The Mountaineers started the third set down by seven at one point but battled throughout and came within three in the middle of the set. Park and Olson combined for five kills throughout the set.   

 NET NOTES 

• Seyun Park led the Mountaineers with eight kills followed by Olson and Alvarado with five a piece.  

• Nur Turkmenoglo led in assists with 19 while Elizabeth Rupprecht tallied 10 digs in the match.

• The Mountaineers will now head to Grand Junction, Colo., to face Colorado Mesa and Westminster for the second time in two weeks. The Mountaineers will face the Mavericks on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. and will face the Griffins on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
