Drew Nash leads Mountaineers to fourth win of the season

CHADRON, Neb.  Western Colorado keeps its winning streak alive, opening the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2021 season. The Mountaineers defeated the Eagles 35-17 in Chadron, Neb., to conclude their latest road trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Mountaineers were able to score on their first drive of the game, as Drew Nash pitched the ball to Deyvon Butler who made a 53-yard pass to Drew Montez at the goal line.  

  • Chadron State responded to the Mountaineers with a field goal.  

  • Nash was able to extend Western Colorado's lead with a two-yard rushing touchdown. On his team's next drive, he connected with Victory David for a 77-yard touchdown pass to cap off the Mountaineers three play 87-yard drive.  

  • The Mountaineers closed the first half with another touchdown pass as he connected with Braeden Hogan.  

  • The Eagles were held to a pair of field goals in the third quarter before inching closer to the Mountaineers with an 80-yard touchdown pass. The Eagles then completed the two-point conversion to make it a 28-17 Mountaineers score.  

  • Butler registered a three-yard rush for the Mountaineers' fourth touchdown of the day.  

FIELD NOTES 

  • Nash closed out the game with a career-high 320 passing yards, including two touchdown passes and a 68.8 completion percentage (28-for-41). Nash also had 45 rushing yards with one touchdown. 

  • Montez was the Mountaineers leading receiver recording 111-yards over eight receptions with one touchdown; he averaged 13.9 yards per reception.  

  • Kendall Lightfoot continues to lead the defensive efforts for the Mountaineers with eight tackles and one interception, while Cy Shope registered seven tackles and a sack for seven yards.  

UP NEXT 
The Mountaineers will now return to Gunnison, Colo., and Katy O. Rady Field to take on Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
