HOW IT HAPPENED
- Deyvon Butler got the Mountaineers on the board with a two-yard run with 8:40 on the clock in the first quarter. Butler secured his second touchdown of the day seven minutes later with another two-yard carry.
- The Buffaloes responded in the second with a pair of field goals by Preston Gregg.
- After a quiet fourth quarter, Braeden Hogan delivered a touchdown for the Mountaineers with a three-yard run.
- Butler capped off Western Colorado's season opener with a 23-yard rushing touchdown at the 2:45 mark.
FIELD NOTES
- Quarterback Drew Nash finished the game with 158 passing yards (13-of-27) and 44 rushing yards.Â
- Deyvon Butler was the leading rusher for the Mountaineers, rushing for 61-yards on 11 attempts. Butler also racked up 27 receiving yards on four catches.
- West Texas had 239-yards – 108-yards rushing, 131-yards passing - of total offense.
- Defensively for the Mountaineers, Ian Loomis, Tony Cass and Trevor Rivers all registered six tackles. Andrew Arterburn and Wyatt Buhr both recorded interceptions for Western Colorado.
