HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountaineers got going early scoring the first five-points of the game, on an Avery Rembao layup and Trevin Lieck three-pointer. UCCS responded with a 12-2 run, giving them a 12-7 lead (16:05). Rembao slowed down their run, knocking down a jumper while getting fouled and then sinking the free throw – cutting the lead to 10-12 (14:39).
- But, the Mountain Lions offense was still clicking on all cylinders, responding with a 6-2 run. Christian Still tried to spark a run, knocking down a layup (10:48). However, once again UCCS would go on another run, this time going on a 11-4 run.
- Down 16-29 (8:35), Western continued to fight and tried their best to get back in the game. Unfortunately, every time the Mountaineers made a basket the Mountain Lions responded with a basket of their own.
- At halftime, Western trailed 27-40.
- Things didn't start off they way the Mountaineers wanted it to in the second half, as UCCS lead grew to as large as 22-points (16:30). However, Western never quit and with 10:29 left in the second half, they went on an 8-2 run - Robel Desta and Grant Wilkinson each pitching in with three-points during the run and Rembao throwing down a dunk.
- With UCCS lead down to 13-points, the Mountaineers tried to get back into the game. Yet, things just weren't bouncing their way as the Mountain Lions never let Western get within 13-points of the lead again.
