Records: Western 4-7, NNM 4-16
Location: Eagle Memorial SportsPlex, Española, N.M.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles tied the game at 62-62 nearing the final minute with a jumper from in the paint. A Western miss and NNM defensive rebound on the ensuing possession granted the Eagles with a chance for the winning basket,
- After an Eagles timeout, Nigel Quaynor grabbed an inbounds pass and drove to the basket from the right, only to meet a wall of resistance from Jamel Hollins who forced an off-the-mark shot that Tyler Halligan snared for a Mountaineer rebound.
- Halligan quickly dished to Juelfs along the baseline where he was fouled by Eloy Medino.
- Juelfs calmly stepped to the free throw line and dropped in both attempts for a two-point Western advantage.
- A quick drive down the court set up an Eagles 3-pointer from the right corner by Emmanual Taban, but the shot rimmed out and was ripped from the air by Hollins who quickly fed Amar Rivers who then dribbled out the remaining few seconds to preserve the victory.
- The Mountaineers fell behind early in the first half and went into the halftime break trailing by six, 31-25. They heated up in the second half, though, outscoring the Eagles, 39-31.
COURT NOTES
- Juelfs led the Mountaineers with 15 points, none more important than his final 2 points from the free-throw line. Halligan, making his first start in a Mountaineer uniform, added 12 points while Hollins also reached double digits with 11.
- Hollins' game-high 10 rebounds gave him his second double-double of the season.
