Mountaineers lose close battle with Lopers

KEARNEY, Neb.  The Mountaineers fell to the Lopers of University of Nebraska Kearney 76-75, despite being up 44-39 at the half.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Going into the final two minutes of the game, the two teams were tied at 69 points apiece before Avery Rembao put his team up by two. The Lopers then came back to tie the game again at 71. Sean Evans then went to the free throw line and made his one attempt to put his team up one.  

  • At the 47 second minute mark, the game was then tied at 74 after Rembao made his first attempt at the charity strip. Rembao then put his team ahead by making his second free throw. The Lopers then made a layup to take the lead with 40 seconds left and was able to hold onto their one-point lead.  

  • In the first half, Western Colorado shot 53.1 percent from the field which was seven percent better than the Lopers. They also had a 35.7-clip from beyond the arc.  

COURT NOTES 

  • Avery Rembao led the Mountaineers with 19 points going 6-for-13 from the field and 4-for5 from the free throw line. Kade Juelfs went 6-for-10 from the field and 3-for-7 from three-point range.  

  • Defensively, three Mountaineers tallied a block each while Xavier Harris registered two steals, three rebounds and four assists. Jamel Hollins also led the Mountaineers rebounding efforts with seven rebounds.  

UP NEXT 

Western Colorado will now head to Utah Valley University for an exhibition on Friday night. They will start conference play on December 1st as they take on Adams State at home at 7 p.m.
