GOLDEN, Colo. Western Colorado knew it would have its hands full Sunday afternoon, playing the 16th-ranked team in the country on its home pitch. And the Mountaineers were able to keep Colorado School of Mines off the scoresheet early, but the Orediggers scored midway through the first half then finished off a 4-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference shutout at Stermole Soccer Stadium.
JUST THE FACTS

Records: Western 1-8-2 overall (1-4 RMAC), Mines 7-2-3 (3-1-2)
Location: Stermole Soccer Stadium, Golden, Colo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mines came out aggressively, registering the first four shots of the game, three of which were on frame forcing Mountaineer goalkeeper Mei Hayashizaki into making saves on each of the three Orediggers chances.
- Western has had some difficulty in generating pressure in its attacking third in the early going recently, but Laura Pelino bucked that trend with a shot that was wide of the frame in the 25th minute.
- It wasn't until the 28th that the potent Mines attack would find the back of the goal as Callie Fuhr finally got one past Hayashizaki to open the scoring.
- Needing to stay close, Western unfortunately surrendered a second goal two minutes later. Kylie Hickox and then Gracy Lyman got off shots in the 37th in trying to halve the deficit, but Mines escaped those efforts and toted a two-goal lead into the halftime break.
- The Orediggers added a third goal in the 50th, and a fourth off a corner opportunity in the 58th to finish off the scoring.
- The Western attack found some juice late, but a Pelino shot I the 67th was saved by Emma Carstens, who picked up another save on a Caileen Sienknecht shot in the 75th. Later in the same minute it was Tawny Roberts with an attempt put her shot was outside the left post.
- Though Mines scored four times, Hayashizaki stood tall in goal for Western. Under duress all afternoon she finished the game with a season high 10 saves.
