GUNNISON, Colo. A goal in each half and an edge in possession allowed visiting Westminster University to escape Katy O. Rady Field with a 2-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over Western Colorado women's soccer Friday afternoon.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Westminster def. Western Colorado, 2-0
Records: Western Colorado 1-9-2 overall (1-5 RMAC), Westminster 5-4-2 (3-2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Westminster put the Mountaineers in a hole in the 15th minute with an unassisted goal by Cassidy Orr, who corralled a loose ball in the goal box for an easy go-ahead tap-in.
- Western tried to play catch-up after falling into that deficit, but the Griffins played a solid possession game, having success connecting passes until opportunities up field opened up.
- The Mountaineers had opportunities working through the midfield when it was their turn, but getting past the last line of the Westminster defense proved difficult.
- With the Griffins controlling much of the possession, the game finally opened up in the 78th when a turnover in the middle third became a Westminster opportunity that finished in the back of the Western Colorado net.
TURF NOTES
- Western's best opportunity game in the 33rd when from the top of the box Natsuki Murakami aimed a shot inside the right post, but Griffins netminder Brighton Jakeman slid over to make the save and preserve her team's one-goal advantage.
- The Mountaineers' difficulty in their attacking third showed on the scoresheet as they were out shot 19-2 for the game, and 8-1 in shots on goal.
- Aubree Orosco came on in goal for Western in the 27th after a hard foul by Westminster forced a goalie change. Orosco finished the game with five saves.
