PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado pushed into its attacking third sometimes with ease Friday night, but the host ThunderWolves from Colorado State University Pueblo clamped down each time and in turn, made several transitions down the pitch in what would become a 3-0 Pack win in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: CSU Pueblo def. Western, 3-0
Records: Western 1-7-2 overall (1-3 RMAC), CSU Pueblo 3-2-5 (1-1-3)
Location: at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium, Pueblo, Colo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountaineers were outshot 8-2 during first-half action, but goalkeeper Mei Hayashizaki came up with four saves on the ones that were on target to allow Western to enter the halftime break knotted in a scoreless draw.
- The ThunderWolves didn't take long, however, to break the tie in the second half, scoring just 72 seconds into the period.
- Ten minutes later a cross from left to right in front of the Western goal turned into another Pack score, and a miscue in the Mountaineer defensive third in the 70th minute ended up in net for a three-goal deficit.
- Many times throughout the game the Western midfield would push possession into Pueblo's defensive territory, but the Pack were able to turn away further advancement, resulting in the Mountaineers registering a total of three shots and just one on frame.
