GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will try to make it three and four in a row this weekend with visits from Metropolitan State University of Denver on Thursday and Colorado Christian University on Sunday.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Mountaineer have won two straight, earning a 3-2 win last Friday at Regis University and closing the road trip with a 2-0 shutout of host Black Hills State University.
- The win at Regis was a come-from-behind victory as Laura Pelino converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute for the equalizer and Caileen Sienknecht knocked in a header on a corner kick from Luci Gulbransen in the 87th for the game-winner.
- The win at Black Hills State was somewhat less dramatic, but the teams were scoreless at the halftime break lending some gravity to the contest. The pressure was alleviated in the 61st when Gracie Lyman converted a set piece off an assist from Sienknecht for the opening goal, Lyman's first career goal. Western as limiting BHSU to just three shots on goal but Lyman provided insurance with her second goal, sealing the deal at the 89:12 mark.
- Sienknecht's four goals and one assist for nine points leads the Western attack. Lyman's two goals and Gulbransen's one goal and two assists are tied for next on the list with four points apiece.
- Goalkeeper Aubree Orosco made her second and third starts of the season at Regis and BHSU, earning the win in both matches to improve to 2-1 on the year. She's sporting a 1.80 goals-against average and has made 28 saves over six games.
MSU DENVER HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Roadrunners are 6-5-4 overall and 5-3-1 in the RMAC heading into Thursday's match with Western. They are 3-1-1 in their past five games with the lone defeat coming against then-No. 18 Colorado Mines and the draw coming against then-No. 5 Colorado Mesa. MSU Denver is 9-1-2 all-time versus Western.
- Tessa Killmon and Monica Yoder each have four goals to pace the Roadrunners in scoring. Both also have one game-winning goal to their credit.
- The goal has been guarded almost exclusively by Kyle Bach who's started 14 of the team's 15 outings. Bach is 6-5-3 on the season with a 1.19 GAA, .822 save percentage, and has accumulated 74 saves. She's registered five shutouts and combined for one other.
COLORADO CHRISTIAN HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- CCU is 3-7-4 overall and 1-5-3 in conference action, and it will square off against Fort Lewis College on Thursday before taking on the Mountaineers on Sunday.
- The Cougars are 2-5-5 all time against Western, with CCU's last victory in the series coming in the 2019 matchup.
- CCU has scored 10 goals this season, three coming from Jessie Sims and two credited to Capri Dewing.
- The last line of defense has been a shared position for the Cougars as Alana Lopp has nine starts in goal and Ireland Jeffrey has five. Lopp is 1-5-3 with a 0.89 GAA, a .860 save percentage, and a total of 49 saves. Jeffrey is 2-2-1, averages 1.00 goals against, has 14 saves and a save percentage of .737.
