HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Things were relatively quiet for the first 20 minutes of the game – both teams only having one shot on goal. But, that would change before the halftime horn would sound.
  • As the end of the first half was approaching, the Mountaineers set themselves up to score after a foul (37:42) on the Thunderwolves gave Western Colorado a free kick 15-yards from the penalty box. Mary Wilson delivered a beautiful cross, which led to Gracie Lyman tipping the ball to Taylor Bottoms who took a shot, that deflected off of Natasha Kasozi foot for the goal.
  • Kasozi, at the 42:33 mark, got an opportunity to score again and fired a shot on goal. However, CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper made a diving save to keep the score at 1-0 in favor of Western.
  • 10 minutes into the second half, the Mountaineers extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Bottoms (assisted by Kasozi) who dribbled around her defender and kicked the ball past the Thunderwolves goalkeeper in the bottom right corner of the goal.
  • With 56:10 left in the game CSU-Pueblo nearly scored their first goal of the game. But, Mary Wilson made a great defensive play to keep the shutout alive.
  • Before the game ended (88:56), the Thunderwolves had multiple opportunities to get their first goal of the game. However, Western Colorado defense held strong and frustrated CSU-Pueblo attackers as they earned the shutout.
