Pueblo, Colorado. Western Colorado got back on track on Saturday (Sep. 17), leading to them defeating CSU-Pueblo 17-10 on the road. With the win the Mountaineers improve to 1-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Thunderwolves had an opportunity on their opening drive to score a touchdown with the ball on Western Colorado's seven-yard line. However, the Mountaineers defense held strong and forced CSU-Pueblo to kick a 24-yard field goal, which was good and gave them a 3-0 lead.
- Three drives later with 3:23 left to go in the first quarter, Connor Desch connected with Malik White on a 39-yard touchdown pass to give Western Colorado a 7-3 lead.
- Right before the second quarter ended – 2:10 left before halftime – the Thunderwolves put together a 12-play drive that ended in an 18-yard touchdown pass. At halftime, CSU-Pueblo led 10-7.
- The third quarter was quiet for both teams. But, Western Colorado set themselves up to score right as the clock hit zero. At the start of the fourth quarter, Alec Fonseca drilled a 53-yard field – seventh longest field goal made all-time in a game – tying the game at 10-10.
- Following the Mountaineer defense forcing the Thunderwolves to punt the ball of their first drive of the fourth quarter. Western Colorado offense put together a 16-play drive, that ended in a four-yard touchdown pass from Desch to Andrew Montez who was wide open in the endzone – giving the Mountaineers a 17-10 lead with 4:02 left to play.
- CSU-Pueblo had one more opportunity to try to tie the game, starting on the 13-yard line, with 1:47 left on the clock. However, the Thunderwolves couldn't get the job done as they lost 17-10.
FIELD NOTES
- In Josh Cummings first game back, he rushed for 111-yards on 25 attempts (4.4-yard average). Deyvon Butler also played in his first game of the season and had a major impact, rushing for 73-yards on nine attempts (seven-yard average).
- Desch threw for 130-yards and two touchdowns.
- Malik White was the leading receiver for the Mountaineers, racking up 59-yards and a touchdown on four receptions.
- Defensively, Ethan Sanchez-Maxwell led the team in tackles with nine (1.5 being tackle for loss), and also had one sack and one interception.
- Carson Mandrell and Jack Anderson also had a sack apiece.
