GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado University athletics is proud to announce seven new members to its Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF).
The Class of 2022 – to be inducted at the 27th Hall of Fame ceremony on September 23, 2022 – are Kim (Pennapacker) Callis, Paul Fields, Eric Hannah, Lynn Levy, Craig Otto, and James F. "Skip" Pritchard.
Eric Hannah, Football 1996-98
A quarterback for the Mountaineers, Hannah was the 1998 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-RMAC QB. He ranked among the program's top five in seven single-season categories and closed his time at Western sixth in career completions – in just two years leading the Mountaineer offense.
Craig Otto, Wrestling 1995-98
Otto was part of a Red Tornado program that earned top-15 finishes at nationals and an RMAC title (1997), aided by Otto's All-American performances in 1997 (5th place) and 1998 (3rd place).
Kim (Pennapacker) Callis, Swimming 1979-83
Callis qualified for NAIA nationals in 1981, 1982 and 1983 and is a seven-time All-American and an Academic All-American. She graduated from the program with a pair of then-school records in the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyles.
Paul Fields, Track 1975-78
Fields remains one of the best athletes to compete for the Mountaineer track & field program. He still owns Western's decathlon record (7,128 points), finished fifth at the 1977 NAIA championship meet in the event (7,028 pts.), and his career-best performances in the 110-meter hurdles (14.52 seconds) and triple jump (48 feet-7 inches) currently rank 8th and 9th, respectively, on Western's outdoor top-10 list.
James "Skip" Pritchard, 1973-77
Pritchard will be inducted into the Hall of Fame under the heading of
Friend of Mountaineer Athletics. He transferred to Western and played center on the Mountaineers' 1973 and 1974 RMAC championship teams. He would go on to be a student assistant and then a graduate assistant coach for the program through the 1978 season. It was later, though, the Pritchard made perhaps his most valuable contribution to the program: as a catalyst for the for the establishment in 2013 of the still-active and thriving Mountaineer Football Alumni Association
Lynn Levy, Skiing and Football, 1949-54
Arriving at Western as a quarterback, Levy switched to the ski team after one year and found his place. He competed at the NCAA championship in 1953, finishing 5th in jumping and 4th in cross country skiing, following that performance up with a top-4 finish in Nordic Combined the next winter. Levy would go on to earn a spot on the United States World Championship team in 1954 and then the U.S. Olympic team that competed in the Cortina, Italy, Winter Olympics.
