GUNNISON, Colo. The Western Colorado football program signed 28 student-athletes on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022. Then add Michael Hayes (Running Back) and Brian Mata (Offensive Line) a few weeks later.
On signing day, the Mountaineers signed 24 from Colorado, two from California, and two from Texas
As far as a positional breakdown, on offense there was a focus on the front line as the Mountaineers signed seven offensive linemen, who will be protecting the five quarterbacks signed. Also signed on offense were two wide receivers, two tight ends and two running backs. Defensively, the focus was on the middle of the defense as the Mountaineers signed four linebackers to go along with three defensive linemen and three defensive backs.
