Mountaineers kick off four game road stretch against Rangers, Orediggers

GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado will look to kick off this four-game road stretch on a positive note as they take on Regis University (Feb. 11) and Colorado School of Mines (Feb. 12). Both games will be played at 5 p.m.

MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • February has started off good for Western as they are 2-1 in the month, winning their last game (Feb. 5) 60-52 against New Mexico Highlands. Emmery Wagstaff played a huge role in the victory scoring 21-points in the game.
  • So far, the Mountaineers have done a good job overcoming adversity – losing Samantha Coleman and Grace Kirscher for their last stretch of game – leading to them sitting in seventh place (8-7) in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Standings.  
  • In the last three games, Wagstaff has been the leading scorer for Western averaging 15-points, followed by Katie Dalton with 14-points and Natalie Jojola with 10.6-points.
  • During that stretch, the Mountaineers have averaged 65.6-points and have given up 61.3-points.
RANGERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Regis has had a rough stretch lately, losing their last eight games they have played, resulting in them being in 11th place (5-11) in the RMAC standings. Recently they lost 69-60 to Metro State and 73-58 to Colorado School of Mines.
  • Josey Ryan and Tashika Burrell are the leading scores for the Rangers, scoring 11.9 and 10.7-points per game. Ryan is the better field goal and three pointer shooter out of the dual, shooting 40.8 percent (No. 7 RMAC) from the field and 31.5 percent (No. 10 RMAC) from three.
  • On the glass, Morgan L Smith, Sam Deem and Erin Stroberg grab the majority of the boards averaging 5.9, 5.8 and 5.6 rebounds per game.
  • Defensively, Ryan is also a factor stealing the 1.9 times per game.
  • Regis has the sixth ranked offense scoring 66.7-points per game, and the 10th ranked defense giving up 66.9-points.
OREDIGGERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | SEASON STATS
  • Colorado School of Mines has been dominant this season sitting in first place (14-2), while also being undefeated at home (8-0). The Orediggers are currently on a two-game winning streak after defeating Colorado Christian 75-62 (Feb. 5) and Regis 73-58 (Feb. 6).
  • The Orediggers are led by a trio of lethal scores, those being Denali Pinto (13.4, No. 9 RMAC) Courtney Stanton (11.6, No. 14 RMAC) and Sammy Van Sickle (11.1, No.20 RMAC). Stanton is the better field goal shooter making 46.1 percent (No. 6 RMAC) of her shots, while Van Sickle knocks down 47.3 percent (No. 2 RMAC) of her threes.
  • Defensively, Colorado School of Mines is led by Ashley Steffeck who leads the RMAC in steals with 4.3, followed by who is third in the RMAC with 2.6. Van Sickle is also ranked fifth in the RMAC with 1.6 blocks per game.
  • The Orediggers have the number one ranked offense and defense, scoring 74-points a game and only give up 56.2-points.

Western will hit the road again for their two final two road games of the regular season, taking on Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The Mountaineers will then take on Adams State University the next day (Feb. 19) at 5:30. p.m.
