HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colorado School of Mines tried to take control of the game early on, holding a 13-6 with 16:39 left to go in the first half. However, the Mountaineers went on a 7-2 run, Jaelan McCloud and Kevin Jimenez each making a layup, while Avery Rembao knocked down a three-pointer.
- Down 13-17, Western continued to exchange baskets with the Orediggers - resulting in Colorado School of Mines having a 21-16 lead. But, a 9-4 run that lasted eight-minutes and 29 seconds gave the Orediggers a 10-point lead. The lead would grow from there, getting as large as 24-points. At halftime, the Mountaineers trailed 32-56.
- Gino Corridori and Robel Desta were the leading scorers at halftime, recording eight and seven-points.
- Coming out of halftime, Colorado School of Mines increased their lead to 30-points, scoring the first six-points of the quarter. But, Western halted that 6-0 run, thanks to a Syris Williams layup and McCloud three-pointer.
- That was the closest the Mountaineers got of the lead – 25-points -  for the remainder of the game, as Colorado School of Mines offense was shooting lights out for the entire game – finishing the game shooting 55.6 percent from the field. Additionally, they shot 57.9 percent in the first half and 52.9 percent in the second half.
COURT NOTES
- Rembao led the way in the scoring department recording 11-points. McCloud and Corridori were right behind Rembao, pitching in nine-points apiece. Corridori was the leading rebounder for the Mountaineers grabbing five boards.
- The Orediggers had four players in double figures for scoring, being led by Brendan Sullivan who had 24-points.
- Colorado School of Mines got a lot of help off their bench, who scored 44-points – Western bench scoring 19-points – and were able to capitalize on the Mountaineers mistakes, scoring 19-points off turnovers. Western had five-points off turnovers.
