HOW IT HAPPENED
- 2:45 minutes into the game the Mountaineers nearly got on the board. However, Hadley Collins shot was just a tad bit off from sneaking into the top right corner of the goal. Six minutes later Western got another shot on goal after Reece Mercer delivered a pass to Laura Pelino who shot the ball to the bottom left corner.
- The Mountaineers were putting pressure on Regis's defense with 28:01 to go before halftime. But the Rangers put together a quick counterattack that ended with the ball sneaking into the back of the net.
- Right before the half ended, Kylie Hickox forced Regis goalkeeper to make a goal tying save – top left corner -as once again Western was so close to scoring a goal. At halftime, Regis held a 1-0 lead.
- The Mountaineers defense held strong for the majority of the second half. Yet, at the 75:54 Western's defense committed a costly penalty in the penalty box, resulting in the Rangers getting a penalty kick which they capitalize on, extending their lead to 2-0.
- The Mountaineers continued to fight and set themselves up to score again. But, similar to their previous opportunities the shot just barely missed getting into the back of the net. A Western player delivered a beautiful cross, that bounced off another Mountaineer player in the penalty box and bounced to Hickox, who took a shot (84:18) that deflected off the crossbar.
- A few minutes later (87:52), Sarah Connolly's shot – from 10-yards outside the penalty box – just narrowly missed potentially sneaking into the net.
- Before the game ended, Regis scored another goal with 12 seconds left in the game.
