Strong first half by Eagles too much to overcome

GUNNISON, Colo.  Western Colorado got things going in the second half outscoring Chadron State 51-49. However, the Eagles got off to a hot start which was too much to overcome resulting in the Mountaineers losing 107-96.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Western was in control early on, holding a seven-point lead (18-11), after Gino Corridori made a jumper with 15:08 left to go before halftime.
  • The Eagles erased that lead in nearly three-minute and managed to take a lead of their own after CJ Jennings knocked down two free throws.
  • Chadron State lead continued to grow from there leading to them having a 58-45 lead at halftime.
  • While things went better for the Mountaineers in the second half, they couldn't get the stops they needed in order to erase the Eagles lead.
  • The closest Western got from tying the game was five-points, which came after Avery Rembao made a lay-up with 5:21 left to go in the game.
COURT NOTES
  • Matthew Ragsdale was the leading scorer for the Mountaineers scoring 24-points in the game, while Elijah Davidson was right behind him with 22-points of his own.
  • Rembao also made a solid contribution with 16-points.
  • For Chadron State, KJ Harris led the way for them scoring 23-points, and had help from Marcus Jefferson, CJ Jennings, Mason Hiemstra, and Porter Anderson who pitched in with 18, 17, 15 and 13 points of their own.
  • Western was 53.8 percent (35-65) from the field, 47.8 percent (11-23) from three and 53.6 percent (15-28) from the free throw line.
  • The Eagles shot 56.7 percent (34-60) from the field, 42.9 percent (6-14) from three and 80.5 percent (33-41) from the free throw line.
