Mountaineers defeat West Texas A&M, move to 2-0 for first time since 2014

DURANGO, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2014 after defeating West Texas A&M 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dirks Field.

The Mountaineers (2-0) picked up an early goal from freshman Kylie HIckox in the 10th minute of the contest before building a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute an a goal from Casey Ober - assisted by Jessie Jacobsen.

Despite being outshot 21-6 in the game (11-3 in shots on goal), Western Colorado put together its second-consecutive shutout thanks to 11 saves from Kaeyla Noble - seven coming in the second half.

The Buffs would play a person down over the final 27 minutes of the contest after Emily Avila was given a yellow and red card.

Ober led the Mountaineers with three shots, two on goal.

Western Colorado plays its home opener 3 p.m. Friday as the Mountaineers host Eastern New Mexico at Katy O. Rady Field. The game will also be the program's local youth soccer appreciation game so look for more details later in the week.
