GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team lost 2-0 to CSU Pueblo on Friday afternoon at Katy O. Rady Field.
The Mountaineers (1-7 overall, 1-3 RMAC) fell behind the ThunderWolves (5-2-1, 3-1-1) in the 10th minute when Litzy Serna scored on an assist from Faith Meredith.
CSU Pueblo added to the lead 11 minutes later when Meredith scored on an assist from Madison Jepperson to make it 2-0.
The Mountaineers had their opportunities, taking 15 shots compared to 19 for CSU Pueblo, but only four of the shots were on frame compared to 13 for the ThunderWolves.
Jessie Jacobsen and
Parker Barnhardt led Western Colorado with three shots apiece while
Casey Ober,
Laura Pelino,
Caitlyn Cox and
Caileen Sienknecht had two apiece. In goal,
Grace Walker finished the game with a career-high 11 saves for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers still have a chance to make the RMAC Tournament as they host Adams State 1 p.m. Sunday with a win going a long way toward picking up the fourth and final postseason spot in the division (the top four teams in the two divisions make the RMAC Tournament). It will also be senior day with the ceremony for Western's two seniors - Barnhardt and Cox - happening following the contest.
