Western Colorado falls to #15 Colorado School of Mines in RMAC quarterfinals

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- Western Colorado volleyball concludes the spring 2021 season after a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-20) loss to #15 Colorado School of Mines in the quarterfinals of the RMAC Tournament.

The Mountaineers finish their season with a 6-8 overall record, after making their first RMAC Tournament appearance since 2015.

Colorado School of Mines lost their last three matches heading into the quarterfinals and were determined not to lose another. The Orediggers outscored the Mountaineers 75-45 over three sets.

Western Colorado fought to stay alive in the third set as they came out swinging and were able to build a six-point lead at one point. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers were unable to maintain their momentum to close out the set falling to the Orediggers 25-20.

Leading the Mountaineers in kills was sophomore Emily Mangone as she recorded 11 kills on the night, most of those kills coming off an assist from Hanna Hendrickson who earned 24 assists in the match.

Defensively, Elizabeth Rupprecht led the team in digs as she kept the ball alive with 13 digs over the three set match. At the net, the Mountaineers were unable to record any blocks allowing the Orediggers to apply continued pressure offensively.

Western Colorado did record three aces as a team, with Hanna Hendrickson, Emily Mangone, and Kaia Ghosh each recording one.

The Mountaineers will now head into the offseason to prepare for the fall 2021 season.
