GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team lost to Adams State 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Katy O. Rady Field in a non-RMAC contest.
The Mountaineers (0-3) and Grizzlies (1-0) were scoreless through a first half where Western Colorado controlled possession for much of the half, but couldn't convert on its opportunities.
The Grizzlies took the lead in the 69th minute when Carena Harrison took a loose ball and scored to make it 1-0.
The Mountaineers couldn't find the equalizer in the final 21 minutes.
Western outshot Adams State 9-8, though the Grizzlies took five shots on goal compared to three for the Mountaineers.
Laura Pelino led the team with three shots with two on goal while
Jessie Jacobsen and
Casey Ober took two shots apiece with Ober putting one on frame.
Grace Walker picked up three saves in 90 minutes of action in goal for the Mountaineers.
Western Colorado returns to action 3 p.m. Friday when it hosts Colorado Mesa.
