GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team lost to Colorado Mesa 5-0 on Friday afternoon at Katy O. Rady Field.
The Mavericks (2-1-1) scored three goals in the first half against the Mountaineers (0-4), including a pair within a minute of each other. CMU added two more in the second half to make the final 5-0. Lila Dere led the Mavs with two goals while Lexi Newton had a team-high two assists.
CMU outshot Western 28-3, including 21-1 on shots on goal.

Alex Mason and Caileen Sienkencht each took a shot for the Mountaineers.
Grace Walker was in goal during the first half and picked up nine saves while
Kaeyla Noble played in the second half at keeper and had seven saves.
The Mountaineers return to action 3 p.m. Monday as they host Salt Lake Community College in an exhibition game.
