GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 contest to Colorado Mesa on Saturday afternoon at Maverick Field in a non-RMAC contest.
The Mountaineers (0-2) and Mavericks (1-1-1) were scoreless in the first half before off a goal kick for the Mountaineers, CMU's Sydney Hathaway trapped the ball and found a streaking Lexi Newton who scored in the 63rd minute to make it 1-0.
Twenty one minutes later, Kristen Capan got her own rebound off a shot and headed it in to make 2-0.
The Mountaineers were outshot 18-4 in the game, including 11-2 on shots on goal.
Laura Pelino led Western Colorado with three shots - one on goal.
Grace Walker picked up seven saves in goal for the Mountaineers - playing all 90 minutes.
The Mountaineers return to action Friday when they host the Mavericks at Katy O. Rady Field in another non-RMAC contest.
