Box Score 2 GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado Volleyball played their first games of the season on Saturday, walking away one-and-one on the season. The Mountaineers came up short to the Roadrunners of MSU Denver 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-15) in their first match of their double header, but rallied to beat the Grizzlies of Adams State 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23) in their second match.
Western Colorado vs. MSU Denver:
Leading the Mountaineers in kills against the ThunderWolves was junior
Jordyn Todd as she racked up 11 kills in her first game of the season. Todd also tied for the second most digs with six total.
As a freshman,
Alex Galicia led the team in assists with 10 over the three set match. Galicia also recorded six digs, tied for the second most on the team.
Leading the team in digs was senior
Lyria Brook with seven against the ThunderWolves.
Western Colorado vs. Adams State:
Three Mountaineers were in the double digits in kills against the Grizzlies.
Emily Mangone lead the team with 13 kills, followed by
Jordyn Todd (11 kills) and
Caroline Parker (10 kills).
Many of those kills came for the assist of senior
Hanna Hendrickson who recorded 33 assists in the four set match. Hendrickson also earned four blocks against Adams State.
Leading the team in blocks was Mountaineer
Savanna Meyer with seven.
As the libero,
Lyria Brook earned 29 digs in the match, along with recording one ace.
The Mountaineers will be back in action on Feb. 11 as they host Colorado School of Mines in Paul Wright Gym.
