GUNNISON --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team came up short 6-1 Friday at Katy O. Rady Field.

The Mountaineers (4-6-1 overall, 1-4-1 RMAC) gave up a Griffin (5-2-3, 2-2-2) goal less than four minutes into the match, giving Westminster momentum. The Griffins scored three more goals before half, taking a 4-0 lead at half time.

The Mountaineers made some second half adjustments to slow down the Griffins, but still let two more goals get past them. Then in the 84th minute
Casey Elnicki scored off a cross, giving Western Colorado its only goal of the game.

Laura Pelino led the team with three shots, placing one on target. The Mountaineers took nine shots and placed five on target.
Kaeyla Noble faced 31 shots and made 13 saves for Western Colorado.

The Mountaineers return to action 1 p.m. Sunday as they travel to Grand Junction, Colorado to play Colorado Mesa University.
