Mountaineers drop road contest at Black Hills State

SPEARFISH, S.D. --- The Western Colorado men's basketball team fell to Black Hills State 79-53 on Friday at the Donald E. Young Center.

The Mountaineers (2-6 overall, 2-5 RMAC) trailed 22-19 with 4:50 left in the first half before the Yellow Jackets (3-2, 3-2) went on a 12-1 run to end the half to take a 34-20 lead into the break.

Western wouldn't get closer than 12 points the rest of the way as its 53 points was a season low.

The Mountaineers shot a season-low 29 percent from the field, including going 5-for-19 from 3-point range. They were outscored 38-22 in the paint as BHSU shot 46.8 percent from the field.

Grant Wilkinson and Avery Rembao led the Mountaineers with 12 points apiece with Wilkinson going 2-for-4 from 3-point range. Jackson Ehrlin just missed his fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Western - whose original games this weekend at Adams State and CSU Pueblo were postponed due to COVID-19 protocol - returns to action Friday as the Mountaineers host Westminster.
