GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado Athletic Department is canceling the 2020 Crab Feed scheduled for March 28, 2020, due to precautionary measures for COVID-19. Visit Western Colorado University's
COVID-19 resource and updates page for more information about WCU's action on the recent events involving COVID-19.

Below is a message from WCU Director of Athletics
Miles Van Hee about the canceled event:

Â
Dear 2020 Crab Feed Supporters,
Â
As we watch events unfold related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Western Colorado has taken a variety of precautionary measures to help minimize the transmission of the coronavirus. The most recent announcement includes delivering classes online through at least April 3. Additionally, campus-sponsored events of 150-plus participants are canceled indefinitely. Sadly, the 2020 Crab Feed scheduled for March 28 falls into this category and will be canceled. As much as the Athletics Department would like to continue with the event as scheduled, the safety of you all, our staff and our student-athletes is of utmost importance. Beyond this, we hope to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 throughout the Gunnison community through canceling events such as the Crab Feed.
Â
The Athletics Department and Mountaineer Athletic Association Board have begun discussions on hosting an online auction in lieu of the event or rescheduling the event to a later date this summer or fall. As we finalize our decision, we will communicate it to you all.Â
Â
In the meantime, if you purchased a ticket or table for the 2020 Crab Feed, you can decide to donate your purchase to the Mountaineer Athletic Association. If you'd prefer a refund for your ticket or table purchase, please contact
Bree Hare, Athletics Business Manager, at
bhare@western.edu so a refund can be processed.
Â
Thank you all for your continued support of Mountaineer Athletics and for your understanding as we work through this unprecedented time.Â
