COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The Western Colorado men's basketball team was selected tied for 10th in the RMAC's Preseason Men's Basketball Coaches poll released by the conference on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers are tied with Westminster for the 10th spot with 91 points, seven points behind No. 9 CSU Pueblo and 37 points ahead of No. 12 South Dakota Mines. Colorado School of Mines was picked to win the conference with 13 of the 15 first-place votes and 195 points while Black Hills State was picked second with two first-place votes and 172 points followed by UCCS, Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis in the top five.
Western made a furious charge to end the 2019-20 season to try and make the RMAC Tournament, winning its final six games of the season, but fell one game out of the final playoff spot. However, the 14 wins equaled the most wins for the program since winning 18 games in the 1998-99 season (when head coach
Bradd Schafer was a player for the Mountaineers).
The Mountaineers open the season Dec. 4 at home against Black Hills State. No spectators will be allowed at any home Mountaineer contests through Dec. 31.
