WCU women look to stay in RMAC title hunt with road trip to CCU, Regis

GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's basketball team looks to stay in the RMAC title hunt, stay in the top four to host in the opening round of the RMAC Tournament and inch closer to clinching a postseason spot as the Mountaineers travel to take on Colorado Christian on Friday and Regis on Saturday.

WCU is in third place in the RMAC at 10-3, a game back of second-place Westminster and two games back of first-place Colorado Mesa. The Mountaineers are a game ahead of Fort Lewis and Colorado School of Mines, who are tied for fourth place. The top eight teams make the postseason tournament with WCU owning a four-game edge on the teams tied for eighth (South Dakota Mines and Colorado Christian) with nine games to go.

The Mountaineers remained ranked seventh in the D2SIDA Regional Rankings.

MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEK | SEASON STATS
WCU split on the road last week defeating No. 15 Westminster 45-44 for the program's first win over a ranked opponent since 2009 before losing at Dixie State 68-54 on Saturday.

Gabie Doud - thanks to a 20-point effort in the win over Westminster - leads the Mountaineers in scoring (10.1) and rebounds (5.9). The senior is also helped by shooting 80.9 percent from the field. Freshman Hannah Cooper is second on the team in scoring at 9.6 points per game while leading the team in assists (3.3)  and is second in steals (1.4) to go along with 3.9 rebounds per game. Samantha Coleman is third on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game while Katie Dalton is fourth at 8.5 points while leading the team at 1.0 blocks per game.

The Mountaineers are second in the RMAC in points allowed per game at 53.9 points and fourth in scoring margin at plus-7.8 points per game. The Mountaineers are second in the RMAC in turnovers forced per game at 18.4.

COLORADO CHRISTIAN HEADING INTO THIS WEEK | SEASON STATS
The Cougars split on the road last weekend, defeating Adams State 77-51 on Friday behind 15 points, six rebounds and four assists from Brookelyn Hurlbut before falling to Fort Lewis 72-68 on Saturday with Sam Nunez leading the way with 14 points while Hurlbut had a double-double before fouling out with 12 points and 10 rebounds (six on the offensive glass).

Nunez leads the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game while averaging 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals (tops on the team). Hurlbut is averaging 9.2 points and 5.6 rebounds while Lourdes Gonzalez is at 9.2 points, a team-best 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. 

CCU is 12th in the RMAC in scoring at 59.1 points per game while the Cougars are 10th in points allowed per game at 65.7 points per game. CCU is also third in field goal percentage (40.4 percent).

REGIS HEADING INTO THIS WEEK | SEASON STATS
The Rangers dropped both games on the road last weekend, falling at Fort Lewis 63-46 before losing to Adams State 73-56. However, the Rangers are less than two weeks off of defeating Dixie State on the road - the same team the Mountaineers lost to on Saturday.

Whitney Jacob leads the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game while leading the RMAC in rebounding at 9.8 boards per game. She's also tied for the team lead in 3-pointers made with 30 (shooting 36.1 percent). Emma Sterkel is averaging 9.2 rebounds and a team-best 2.7 assists.

Regis is seventh in the RMAC in scoring at 63.7 points per game while they allow 66.4 points per contest - 11th in the conference. The Rangers are fifth in the RMAC in 3-pointers per game at 7.4.
