GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado wrestling team returns to RMAC action Thursday as the Mountaineers travel to Grand Junction to take on No. 12 San Francisco State at Brownson Arena.
The defending RMAC champion Mountaineers sit at 2-0 in RMAC play with both wins coming over ranked opponents (at the time of the dual) - defeating #24 Chadron State at home on Nov. 14 (28-13) and beating #11 Adams State on the road Jan. 16 (31-12).
WCU is coming off of going 2-1 at the Midwest Duals on Saturday in Kearney, Nebraska, falling to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney 32-9 before defeating No. 23 Northern State 20-17 and Newman 21-7.
Patrick Allis - ranked 10th at 125 pounds - went 3-0 on the weekend, including beating the top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds in Nebraska-Kearney's Joshua Portillo (the second time this season he's knocked off the top-ranked wrestler at his weight class). For his effort, he was named RMAC Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday.
Hunter Mullin also went 3-0 at 174 pounds for the Mountaineers.
San Francisco State features three ranked wrestlers: Mason Boutain is No. 6 at 149 pounds, Maxamillian Schneider is ranked fourth at 157 pounds and Justin Pichedwatana at ranked third at 184 pounds.
The Mountaineers are 8-5-1 all-time against the Gators, including winning last season 35-9 - the first meeting between the schools since 2015.Â
