GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team got within a goal of Colorado Mesa when Missa Webb scored in the 58th minute, but couldn't find the equalizer as the Mountaineers fell 2-1 Sunday at Walker Field in a non-RMAC matchup.
 
Western (0-2) fell behind 2-0 after Colorado Mesa (2-0) got goals in the 22nd minute by Taylor Jones and in the 57th minute by Zoe Peterson. It could've been worse, but Mountaineer keeper Kaeyla Noble made several saves to keep the Mavericks within striking distance.
 
The Mountaineers quickly answered the Mavs' second goal as Missa Webb got free and hit a shot off the left post and in to make it 2-1 in the 58th minute. But Western's chances were limited after that as the Mountaineers couldn't break through to tie the game.
 
Noble finished with nine saves for the Mountaineers while Webb led the team with two of its five shots (four were on goal). The Mavericks finished with 20 shots, 11 of which were on goal.
 
Western returns to Grand Junction next week as they take on Newman University 4 p.m. Friday and Nebraska-Kearney 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
