GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team fell to Newman 3-0 on Friday at Walker Field in Grand Junction.
The Mountaineers (0-3) and Jets (2-0-1) were scoreless through the first 30 minutes before Newman's Kennedy Weaver scored the first of her two goals on the day in the 32nd minute. Weaver's second goal came early in the second half in the 48th minute as Western found itself down 2-0. Newman added its final goal in the 80th minute courtesy of Makenna Schmal.
Parker Barndhardt led the Mountaineers with two shots with one on goal as Western was outshot 23-5 in the contest.
Grace Walker picked up eight saves at keeper to keep the Mountaineers in the contest.
Western returns to action 11:30 a.m. Sunday as it takes on Nebraska-Kearney again at Walker Field in Grand Junction.
