Mountaineers edged by Nebraska-Kearney, 1-0

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team dropped its non-RMAC finale 1-0 against Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at Walker Field.

The Mountaineers (0-4) had its best chance for an equalizer in the final 10 minutes after the Lopers (1-1-2) scored midway through the first half to take a 1-0 advantage.

A great ball played into the box found a sprinting Andrea Grillo in the 82nd minute and the senior ripped a shot toward the upper-left corner of the box that was saved by UNK keeper Allie Prososki to keep Western down 1-0.

It was a back-and-forth open game for much of the contest with UNK outshooting the Mountaineers 23-9, including 8-1 in shots on goal. Grillo led Western with three shots. Kaeyla Noble finished with seven saves at keeper for the Mountaineers.

Western begins RMAC play on the road next week as the Mountaineers take on Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Colorado Christian on Sunday.
