MBB | Western faces CMU for final game

GUNNISON, Colo. – The men's basketball team of Western Colorado University goes into their final game of the season this Friday. The Mountaineers will be taking on the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University at 7:30 p.m.
 
Western (3-18 RMAC, 6-21 overall) is currently on a three game winning streak heading to Grand Junction the take the RMAC Mavericks (13-8 RMAC, 18-9 overall).
 
The Mountaineers are out of playoff contention, but look to upset Colorado Mesa to finish the season winning four straight. The Mavericks already have a playoff spot clinched, but will be looking to better their position in the bracket as they are currently ranked sixth.
 
Playing in his last ever game as a Mountaineer is senior Brady Subart. Subart leads the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game going into the weekend. He also leads the team in minutes played, averaging 33.5 minutes a game. Subart still leads the RMAC in three pointer percentage for the season, hitting 42.9 percent from behind the arch.
 
Freshman Cole Sienknecht is the second leading scorer with 12.7 points per game. Sienknecht ranks sixth in the RMAC for three pointers per game, averaging 2.5 per game.
 
Western's rebounding duo of Jackson Ehrlin and Monroe Porter combine for 333 rebounds this season. Ehrlin with 169 and Porter with 164 rebounds this season. They rank 14th and 15th in the RMAC for rebounding.
 
Porter averages 1.3 steals per game, placing him 11th on the RMAC rankings for steals.
 
The Mountaineers will have their hands full against the explosive offense of Colorado Mesa, led by senior Connor Nichols. Nichols leads the RMAC in scoring, averaging 21 points per game, with 568 total points on the season. He also leads the Mavericks in rebounding with seven rebounds per game, ranked fifth in the RMAC.
 
Western has lost the last four match ups against Colorado Mesa University.
