GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado volleyball heads to Grand Junction to play their last match of the 2019 season as they face the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Friday at 7 p.m. in Brownson Arena.

The Mountaineers currently rank 10th in the conference with their 11-14 overall and 7-10 RMAC record.

THE MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2019 SEASON STATS
Last week the Mountaineers played two matches in Paul Wright Gym as they faced two RMAC contenders. Western Colorado clinched the victory on Friday over University of Colorado Colorado Springs 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 22-15, 27-25, 15-12), then came back on Saturday and fell to the Orediggers 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-17).

The Mountaineers had a nail biting match on Friday night as they won the first set, only to lose the next two. The Mountaineers then rallied to win the fourth set in extra points as they won it 27-25. Western Colorado took an early lead in the fifth set which they were able to ride out for the victory.

Saturday was a different story as the Mountaineer fell behind early in the match losing the first set by 15 points. They started to find their rhythm in the second and third set, but were unable to clinch a victory.Â

Again, leading WCU in kills in last week's matches was freshman
Jordyn Todd who was able to record 21 kills in the eight sets played.
Hanna Hendrickson led the team with 35 assists, with
Hannah Pethtel right behind recording 34 assists. Pethtel also led the team in aces with three in Friday night's match.
Myles Hilbert led the team in digs with 45 over the two matches.
Brianna Hardy led the defense as she recorded five blocks in the two matches.

The Mavericks of the Colorado Mesa University come into Friday's match after winning against UCCS at home in three sets last Saturday and losing in the fifth set to Colorado School of Mines on Friday.

Colorado Mesa has already qualified for the RMAC Tournament as they rank fifth with their 16-9 overall and 12-9 RMAC record.
