Wheelock goal, defense lead Mountaineers past Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team picked up its third win in its last four games thanks to a Megan Wheelock first-half goal and a strong defensive effort in a 1-0 win over Adams State on Sunday at ASU Soccer Field.

The Mountaineers (3-11-1 overall, 3-7-1 RMAC) got on the board in the 26th minute when Wheelock scored her second goal of the season (her first coming last week on a game-winner to beat New Mexico Highlands).

That was enough for a Western Colorado team that picked up its second shutout in its last four games as it held Adams State (3-11, 1-10) to 10 shots (tied with Friday's loss to Fort Lewis for fewest shots allowed by WCU), including holding the Grizzlies to four shots on goal - a season-best for the Mountaineers.

WCU keeper Kaeyla Noble collected four saves for her second shutout of the season. Andrea Grillo led the Mountaineers with two shots as four other players took shots for WCU.
