GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- The Western Colorado women's soccer team scored withing the first minute of the game and made the goal stand as the Mountaineers defeated CSU-Pueblo 1-0 Friday at Walker Field.
Just 40 seconds into the contest WCU's
Missa Webb took a pass from
Andrea Grillo and beat the keeper to the lower right to give the Mountaineers (1-10-1 overall, 1-6-1 RMAC) a quick 1-0 lead on the ThunderWolves (5-6-1, 4-3-1).
From there the WCU defense - and in particular keeper
Kaeyla Noble - withstood every CSU-Pueblo attack as the ThunderWolves would go on to outshoot the Mountaineers 21-6 (including 12-3 on shots on goal).Â
But Noble made all 12 saves on the shots on goal while picking up her first shutout of the season.
Grillo and Webb had two shots apiece for the Mountaineers to lead the way.
WCU looks to make it two wins in a row 11 a.m. Sunday as the Mountaineers take on New Mexico Highlands at Walker Field in Grand Junction.
