MBB | Western to host Westminster and Dixie State this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University men's basketball will be looking to pick-up wins against two teams from Utah this weekend at home. The Mountaineers host Westminster College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Dixie State University at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will be played in Paul Wright Gym.
 
Friday will be the first of four consecutive home games for Western (3-14, 0-11 RMAC). Friday's game is a white-out event, so fans are encouraged to wear white and support the Mountaineers.
 
Western and Westminster coaches will also be participating in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers week. Both coaching staffs will be wearing sneakers with their suits during the game to raise awareness and help save lives by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening and early detection.
 
Western enters the weekend having lost a close 89-98 game to Adams State University last Saturday. The Mountaineers are 16th in the conference standings.
 
The Mountaineers are tied for the conference lead in made three-pointers. Western has 169 made from beyond the arc.
 
Leading the Mountaineer three-point scoring attack are teammates Brady Subart and Cole Sienknecht. Each have made 41 threes this season, which is tied for fourth best in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Subart leads the conference, shooting 46.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Western is also second in the conference when it comes to offensive rebounds. Western is averaging 11.2 offensive rebounds per game.
 
Jackson Ehrlin has grabbed 43 offensive boards this season, averaging 2.5 offensive rebounds per game. Both figures are third best in the conference.
 
Westminster (6-9, 4-7 RMAC) come into Gunnison tied for 11th in the RMAC standings. The Griffins lost both games last weekend to Colorado Christian University and Regis University.
 
Western is 7-31 all-time against Westminster. The Mountaineers split last year's two-game series with the Griffins, winning at home 79-69 in overtime.
 
Five Griffins are averaging double figures in scoring. Brandon Warr leads the team, averaging 14.3 points per game.
 
Saturday's game against Dixie State (7-8, 5-6 RMAC) will be just the third between the two programs. The Trailblazers won both previous games.
 
DSU is riding a two-game win streak and is tied for eighth in the conference standings. The Trailblazers will face Colorado Mesa University Friday night before coming to Gunnison.
 
The Trailblazers are allowing opponents just 69.7 points per game on average, which ranks best in the RMAC.
 
Matt Conway leads DSU in scoring, averaging 17 points per game.
