WSOC | Mountaineers outshoot Rangers in loss

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Soccer outshot Regis University on Sunday, 13-10. However, the Rangers were able to leave Gunnison with a 2-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
 
Western (2-8, 2-4 RMAC) fell behind in the 19th minute following a goal by Regis' Tori Rinsem.
 
The Mountaineers went into halftime trailing 1-0.
 
In the second half, Western controlled the ball and kept it in the Rangers' defensive third for much of the half. The Mountaineers totaled 10 shots to Regis' five in the second half alone.
 
However, a foul called in the Western penalty box gave Regis a chance to go ahead by two goals in the 71st minute. Rinsem converted the kick for her second goal of the match.
 
Megan Wheelock recorded five shots for the Mountaineer offense.
 
Emilie Eckhart made four saves in the match for Western.
 
Western will begin a three-match road trip, beginning with a match against Colorado Mesa University on Sunday, Oct. 7 in Grand Junction, Colorado.
