FB | Western holds CSC scoreless in the fourth

CHADRON, Neb. – The Western Colorado University defense held Chadron State College scoreless in the fourth quarter on Saturday. It was the fourth time in the first five games that the Mountaineers have held opponents without a score in the fourth quarter.
 
Despite the late defensive prowess, the Mountaineers (0-5, 0-4 RMAC) fell to the Eagles (4-1, 4-1 RMAC) 40-22 on Saturday in Nebraska.
 
Western's defense totaled four sacks, including two from linebacker Lane Farris.
 
The Mountaineers fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter before Western running back Isaac Fuqua found the end zone with 4:49 left in the first. Fuqua scored for the sixth time in two games.
 
Fuqua ran for 67 yards on Saturday.
 
Unfortunately for Western, the Eagles would score 19 more points before halftime.
 
Quarterback Dylan Jacob opened the second half with a touchdown pass on third down to Elijah Gillespie with 8:52 left in the third quarter.
 
The touchdown reception was the third of the year for Gillespie and the fifth passing touchdown for Jacob.
 
Jacob also ran for 70 yards, including a 42-yard run to setup the touchdown pass.
 
The Mountaineers ended the third quarter with another touchdown pass coming from Jacob. The Western quarterback found Bryce Harvey in the end zone to make it 40-22 in favor in CSC.
 
Harvey led all Western receivers with five receptions and 62 yards.
 
David Velazquez and Robert Garlock led the Mountaineers on the defensive side. Each recorded six tackles.
 
Western will return home next weekend for Homecoming. The Mountaineers will host Colorado School of Mines at 1 p.m. in Mountaineer Bowl.
