VB | Western takes one in loss to Dixie State

ST. GEORGE, Utah – In the first match of a Utah road stand this weekend, Western State Colorado University managed one of their best single set hitting performances of the season, but could not overcome Dixie State University falling 15-25, 16-25, 25-18, 8-25.

Western (1-11, 0-4 RMAC) could not find the consistency they needed to overcome a strong Dixie State (8-2, 3-0 RMAC) team on the road in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
After dropping two consecutive sets, the Mountaineers rallied in the third. The Mountaineers would record their second-highest attack percentage of the season, hitting .269 in the third set while recording 11 kills in the process. Western took the third set 25-18.

In a tight set, the Mountaineers strung together six consecutive points to come from behind and gain a 19-16 edge over the Trailblazers. Western did not look back from there, closing out the set for the win while only allowing Dixie State to score two more points in the frame.

But Western was unable to equal their third set heroics throughout the match.

The Mountaineers dropped the last set 8-25.

Emilee Scates lead the Mountaineers in kills, equaling her season best effort of 11 in the match. Scates also recorded nine kills, playing well on offense and defense.

Kathleen Kasel also played a strong match for Western, recording 10 kills – her second highest tally of the season. In the process, Kasel hit a season high .381 for the match.
The Mountaineers combined for 44 digs in the match, led by Cammi Baumann's 11.

Western returns to the court tomorrow afternoon in Salt Lake City against Westminster College at 4:00 p.m.
