GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University Volleyball begins the 2018 season on Friday at the Microtel and Travelodge Classic. The Mountaineers will play four matches over the course of two days at the Classic in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Western's season opener comes against the University of Mary at 9 a.m. (MT) on Friday. Mary finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 8-21, and a 4-16 record against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponents.

The Mountaineers will then face Minot State University at 2:30 p.m. (MT). The Beavers ended the 2017 season with a 5-24 overall record and a 1-19 record in the NSIC.

Western will returns three of their top five point scorers for the 2018 season.
Kathleen Kasel recorded 173.5 points a year ago, while
Kiki Johnson scored 165 points and
Cierra Abbott notched 76.5.

Hanna Hendrickson also returns after recording 724 assists in 2017.

On Saturday, Western will face the host school, Minnesota State University – Moorhead at 10:30 a.m. (MT) before ending the tournament against Montana State University – Billings at 1:30 p.m. (MT).

Moorhead enters the 2018 season following a 9-19 performance in 2017. The Dragons were 4-16 in the NSIC.

Billings finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 9-21, and a record of 5-15 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
