WBB | Western on the road at Highlands for penultimate game

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – In the final week of the season, Western State Colorado University women's basketball hits the road Tuesday to play New Mexico Highlands University.

Reprising a close game from December in Paul Wright Gym, Western looks for a road win in their second-outing versus New Mexico Highlands. In their last match up, Western (8-18, 5-15 RMAC) with New Mexico Highlands (4-21, 2-18 RMAC) Western dropped a nail-biter 54-57.

Late in the season, Western has begun to see some changes and trends coalesce in their lineup. With a mere two games remaining, Western has four women averaging over 23 minutes a game. Two, Samantha Coleman and Chandler Sturms, have had a significant impact over the second half of the season.

Coleman has started five of Western's last ten games and scored double-digits in four times in the same stretch.

After returning from an early season injury, Sturms has started nine out the last ten games for Western bringing scoring flourishes on 40% shooting and intangible leadership qualities to the floor.

On the season, Western is shooting 37.6% while averaging 36 rebounds per game. The Mountaineers have been strong on the offensive glass with over 10 per game leading to great second-chance opportunities.

In New Mexico Highlands, Western sees a scrappy team on a 15 game losing streak. Statistically, Highlands falls near the bottom of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, but they continue to have four women scoring over eight points per game with Ari Baca leading the way at 11.4 per.

Following the New Mexico Highlands game, Western will end their season on the road Saturday in a game against RMAC regular season champion, CSU-Pueblo.

A reminder to all our fans that the game will be streamed live on Stretch Internet and live stats will also be available.
