WBB | Western overwhelms Adams State on Senior Night

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball sent their seniors out in style on Saturday night. In a route of rival Adams State University, Western had 24 assists on 28 made baskets to take a 81-60 win.

On the night, Western (8-17, 5-14 RMAC) had three women score over 14 points leading the Mountaineers to a season high 81 points. Combined, Western shot 54.9% from the floor for the game with a deadly 64% clip in the second half.

While the Mountaineers tallied 38 points in the paint, they also shot 53.3% from three-point. Western's inside-outside presence was facilitated by excellent ball movement, taking extra passes for open looks and subsequent baskets. Western's 24 assists was a season high. Jessie Erickson and Alicia Jimenez led the Mountaineers with five assists a piece – including a sizzling no-look pass from Jimenez in the third quarter.

Western's balance and ball movement was simply too much for Adams State (5-16, 3-16 RMAC).

Katie Dalton led all scorers and finished just shy of her career high with 20 points. Samantha Coleman dropped a career high 16 points while going 4-5 from behind the arc. Carra Jackson-Brown had a breakout game in her last home game, netting a season best 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Starting on Senior Night, Katelynn Martinez got Western out to a fast start nailing two deep three-point baskets in the first 2:30 of play. Martinez capped her Senior Day campaign with six points, three assists, and one steal.

Western went into the locker room at halftime with a 10 point lead. They would never look back from there.

In the third, the Mountaineers put their foot on the gas, stretching the lead to 20 on a Coleman three-pointer assisted by Jimenez with 1:29 remaining. At the end of the third, Western led 58-38.

Western led by as many as 25 when Jackson-Brown drilled a three-ball from the corner. Following that basket, the Grizzlies would never get within 18 points as Western rolled to 21 point victory.

Following the win, Western has three road games remaining in the regular season. Next up are the Hardrockers of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
