DENVER, Colo. – In a game of two halves, Western Colorado University Men's Basketball could not overcome Metropolitan State University of Denver despite shooting 57.7% in the second half. Western fell 75-86 to a hot-shooting MSU Denver.
After a sluggish start, Western (3-8, 0-5 RMAC) came alive in the second half but faced an uphill battle against MSU Denver (4-4, 3-2 RMAC). In the first half, the Roadrunners poured in 48 points on 57.6% percent shooting to gain a 17 point edge.
But in the second half, the teams reversed rolls as Western got hot. After the break, Western shot 54.4% from three-point to chip away at the deficit.
Leading the charge for Western,
Quincy Harding recorded a game-high 27 points including 19 in the second half. But Harding's second-half resurgence could not get Western over the hump.
Down by as much as 21 in the first half, Western found a rhythm late, cutting the lead to 10 points with just over five minutes remaining. Attacking the rim, Harding earned an old-fashioned three point play to make it 67-77 with 5:10 on the clock.
On the night, Harding was 10-11 from the free throw line.
In limited minutes,
Brady Subart was productive for Western going 6-8 from the floor to score 16 points for the Mountaineers.
While shooting only 33.3%, repeating of course, in the first half Western went to the locker room down 31-48.
